Friday Freak #10

Another blast from the archives. I created this wizard character and his cat for Dragon magazine years back.
I had a number of stories, all dealing with this wily wizard and his cowardly familiar.
The editors liked them well enough, but they also felt that the stories were a little too cliche' and predictable.
I still like these guys and I think I will continue to post their tales every now and then.
This story is one of my favorites. It reminds me of the scene in the first Indiana Jones movie, where Indy runs into the Master Swordsman in the marketplace.

USA Testprep

Just thought that I would post a sample of some of the work I have been up to.
This is one of the wallpapers I created for USA Testprep, using one of the characters I
created for them to be used in their game,
Super Graduation Kombat Smackdown.
The wily shark.

The Beast has left the Driveway

What a week of changes. This week our daughter started daycare a few days a week. She's getting older, and her happiness and my work were suffering. I am pleased to announce that she is happy as can be, making friends with other rugrats and curtain climbers, and I am knocking my projects out.
I gave my car, the Beast, to KARS4KIDS.
It needs a few minor repairs,( note the VALDEZ spill, minus the penguins), but still runs like a top.
It was a solid car, got me to where I needed to go,( I tend to use a car until the wheels fall off), but since I am doing work over the net, I don't need a vehicle all the time. So, it will now go to a family that needs a car.
I wish them good carma.

Griffin

Thought the page needed some color. I did a little re-imagining of a griffin, one of the coolest
mythological beasts there is.

Ex-Homecoming Queen Beats Sister With Fake Leg In Trailer

I'll bet she was hopping mad. But she won't have a leg to stand on in court. I could go on and on with these...but let's cut to the newspaper goodness.
Trust me on this, it's a good'un!

Friday Freak #8

Going through my old files, and I found my collection of cartoons I had published in Dragon magazine before they were bought by Wizards of the Coast.
Yes, there was a time when I played D&D, ( but I wasn't a kook like some people. We actually had a bunch of guys kicked out of the Kubert school for playing. It seemed that they stopped going to class, and just hung out in the student housing, rolling them 20 sided dice).
Anyhoo, from time to time I will post the cartoons, some accepted, some rejected,(with the yay or nay notes attached).
This cartoon makes me nostalgic. I look at it and think about the sheets of Zippatone , in varying shades and patterns, I had in my studio, the boxes of fresh X-acto blades used to cut the zip, the Bristol pads.....
Ah, kids today don't know how easy they have it.
Now you scan, erase lines. re-draw with a click of the mouse.
Back in the day, if you made a goof, you reached for the white-out. If that didn't do it, or you had to zip in that area, you either made a patch,(re-draw the area, cut out the bad spot, rubber cement in the good, and then hope that white-out would hide the edge).
Most times it was just easier to re-draw the whole schmear!

Terror Tree of the Piney woods

Whew! Just finished up a session of creating Flash movies, and realized that I hadn't posted anything.
This is a creature from a graphic novel I've written.
Someday I'll get it done, but in the meantime I keep doodling the characters and creatures.

Man lived with corpse for years

Hooray! Britain comes back swingin' with a kooky headline!
Speaking of come backs, my computer is back and better than ever. The guys at Atlanta Computer Solutions did me a real solid.
Anyhoo, back to the story.

Friday Freak # 7

Talk about a Friday Freak. Yesterday, like a dope, I clicked on a program that my Bellsouth Security Suite cautioned me about, and immediately had my brand new spanking computer seized by spyware.
So, the project I am working on for Compass Learning lost a day, but the guys at Atlanta Computer Solutions are taking care of my blunder.
This wizard was inspired by a Gahan Wilson character.

Sask-Itoba Rangers

Last week Friday,Jan.25,I was contacted by the head of the Sask-Itoba Rangers
AAA hockey team.
They wanted me to create a mascot/logo for them, but it had to be done by Monday, Jan 28.
Brian had a rough idea of what he wanted, but allowed me to just be as creative as possible.
I haven't worked on a hockey character since my friend, Steve Vitale, and I created Burny the dragon for the now defunct Atlanta Knights.

It was fun working on such a short deadline. I will post pictures of the pucks and jerseys and stuff
as soon as they are printed.

Workers' Torch Started Vegas Casino Fire
