The Yeti, cold and sad

I guess this sketch came about because I was recently in Minnesota due to a death in the family, and was cold and sad.
So, I present the Yeti, who is cold and sad.

Signed up on oDesk, and have completed my first job. Illustrating a book.
I am also working on another project from oDesk, developing a mascot character.

Probation!

Psst..Republicans...over here. Just to let you know, you didn't win last night because America suddenly fell in love with you.
You won because we disliked what the other guys were doing.
Don't blow it.

R.I.P. Candy

Friend, protector, goof-ball, pain in the ass, and constant companion.

Today we went to the vet, and I came home alone.
Almost 14 years old, and a fighter to the end.
Over the years, she had very few doggie friends, but two come to mind right away.

There was Maggie, a tubby beagle.
Here they are, walking the pounds off of Maggie, at my old house.

And then there was Fiona, the next door neighbor's dog.
Fiona would slip under the fence, and wait for Candy to come out to play.

The two of them would chase each other around the yard, as fast as could be...

After all of that activity, they would get pooped. Then they would hang out until they got their second wind, and then they'd take it from the top.

That was many years ago.
As I write this, the sun is shining, and the air has a coolness to it, truly a beautiful day.
I'd like to think that the two of them will meet again, and get that second wind, and start the game again .

Know your ZOMBIE!

To the untrained eye, these two creatures may appear alike. So, as a public service,
I will point out the subtle differences between the Zombie and
the Elderly
.
First,
Zombies stink. While the Elderly usually don't smell of rotten flesh, they both smell a little better after a hot, soapy shower.
Second, while both
Zombies and the Elderly appear to have a glazed, unfocused look
to their eyes, in the
Elderly that is usually due to cataracts, or a side effect of medication; while in the Zombie it is due to their brains being reduced to mush.
The main difference between them is the Elderly's death grip on the remote
control to the TV, due to their fanatic
love of " Cake Boss " and " Dancing with the Stars ".

Ho Ho HORROR!

It's funny how things happen. Here I've been drawing Zombie cartoons for a few weeks, and then I see an ad for an animated zombie production that's looking for character designers, animators, etc.
So..today I present a Zombie Elf in hopes of getting on the staff.
I'll keep you posted.

Zombie Me!

As this hipster has discovered, you gotta be careful about the apps you download.
The " Zombie Me " app seems to do exactly what it says it does.
That's some truth in advertising!

Zombie Mad Man

This Sunday will be the season finale of AMC's " Mad Men ".
So...take one hard-drinking, chain-smoking advertising exec, and combine
the living dead, shake vigorously, and you have today's zombie...Zombie Mad Man!
Here we see him pitching a new campaign aimed at...well, zombies.
It pays to advertise.

The villagers are angry!

The villagers are angry, and have had enough of the monsters wreaking havoc
throughout the countryside.
To be fair, we did help to create them.
21 days until the election.

Make it wooooooooorrrrk!

I am a big fan of Project Runway. Every week I am amazed at the amount of work these aspiring designers crank out.
That being said, I couldn't resist the urge to have a little fun with Gretchen, the "green" designer of this season.
Today's zombie comes from behind the catwalk, Zombie Gretchen.
" Make it wooooork! Make it wooooork!"

Zombie Bowler

After a day of shambling after screaming, hopefully clumsy, victims, a zombie has to relax.
Bowling is a great way to relieve stress, unless you try to pick up the spare and your
putrid arm falls off.
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE....

Let's hear it for ZOMBIES!

I can't wait for the AMC show, " The Walking Dead " to start. So...I guess I have zombies on the brain.
Like this guy, everything is normal, taking a shower, some Irish Spring, and BAM!
Zombified! Just like that!
One of the things that I wonder about is why this guy has a toilet brush?

Werewolf

(click on the pic for a better view)
Getting the Halloween decorations out of the garage's attic, and was thinking about how much fun this time of year is.
Well...maybe not so fun for Mr. Werewolf's snack.
Maybe we should just concentrate on bobbing for apples. Yeah, that's it..bobbing for apples.
That's nice.

Happy October!

Happy October! I love this time of year, it get's cooler outside, leaves change,
monster movies show up on AMC....
To start things off, from last year I present one of my most popular monsters.

" Meatballs" is a favorite movie of mine. Maybe it's because I had learned all of my romantic techniques from the Bill Murray character. Maybe it's because of the clunky acting, or that bushel of hair on top of Christopher Makepeace's head. Or maybe, it's this scene from the movie that still cracks me up. Let's join the campers around their fire...
"I remember a night like this a few years ago. A guy and a girl went out driving.
It was one of their first dates.
It started out kind of casual, but they ended up deciding to go park.
Not too far from here, as a matter of fact.
They're going at it, listening to the radio.
All of a sudden, a news bulletin broke in:
'Dangerous lunatic has escaped... from the
hospital for
the criminally insane at Two Pines'."
"Oh, come on, Trip."
"They described him as a monster, six and a half feet tall,
280 pounds...
with one horrible,
distinguishing feature... a sharpened, stainless steel hook..."
"Oh, God."
"...Where his right hand used to be.
That was enough for the guy.
He slammed the car into gear,
floored it, bounced off a tree... didn't stop till they got
to the girl's house.
Got out of his side,
walked around to hers.
There, hanging in the door, covered with blood... was a stainless steel hook.
The strangest part is that after all these years...
after the biggest manhunt in Two Pines' history...
they never found the killer.
Some people say he's still
up here in the woods...
waiting for the chance to kill again.
And I say... I say they're right! "
Then, the classic wrap-up to this scene:
"That's a bullshit story."
"You guys, it's true. I heard it before."
"I heard it was on a beach."
"Yeah."
" I heard it happened in a park."
" I heard it, but the guy was missing a foot."
"How could the guy have a hook on his foot?"
So, today's monster, with Hook On Foot, is the Twin Pines Lunatic!

Relax...trust the Pitbull

( click on the beast to get a better view )
Today in Douglasville, Georgia, the city council is having a vote on banning pitbulls.
My opinion is that you must be a complete moron to own one of these dogs.
Spare me the ..." I had one growing up and it was the sweetest blah blah blah..."
I don't care.

No More Pacifiers!

I worked on an animated version of this book, " No More Pacifiers " last year.
I was given the layered Photoshop files, and from those I had to separate the
characters, backgrounds, etc., and then animate those elements in Flash.
After the animation was finished, the company I was working with would then
compile the files in After Effects to export everything to a DVD.
It was an unbelievable learning experience.
In fact, thanks to my experience with this project, I have been able to work
on other projects like this, where the client wants his original artwork used in the animation.
Click on this link to watch the first scene.

Branding is Everything!

I agree. It's all about the branding, the name. It's image, not content or message, that
will turn out the voters.
Oh well....

That Tuesday morning

I took this picture from Ellis Island in August of 1992. It was a Friday and my family,
parents, brother and sister, and their kids, were having a great time exploring .
In the foreground, you see the bronze plates that have the names of the families that first passed through Ellis Island to start their lives in America.
Fast forward to Tuesday, September 11, 2001, and the Twin Towers became something else besides a backdrop in movies such as Moonstruck, or in my photo.

The Aliens

You can meet all sorts of great people on the internet,( thanks for inventing it, Al Gore!).
A very talented cartoonist, Joie Simmons, has created a comic strip called "The Aliens".
He had posted on one of the cartooning sites I go to, Digital Webbing, that he needed a colorist.
So, I colored a few sample strips, and we hit it off.
Pictured here is Bob.

Shark Week

Publish Post
(Click on the above image for a better view).
Hooray! This week on the Discovery Channel is SHARK WEEK!
I love the crazy programs this channel will be showing.
One night they will have a show about how sharks are misunderstood, like the oceans' juvenile delinquents.
Then the next night's program will have footage of them leaping out of the water in order to maul baby seals, and maybe a show or two with shark victims showing off their scars.
But my favorite programs are the ones in which people put Great Whites to sleep by rubbing the front of their noses.
Genius!
Here is a drink recipe that will help my adult, of age, readers increase their love of this week's programming:

THE SHARK BITE
1 oz Captain Morgan® Lime Bite
.25 oz blue curacao
.5 oz pineapple juice
Splash of sour mix
Shake, strain and serve in shot glass.

Here's to you, you toothy Bast@rds!
